OUR PEOPLE

LA CHOLA CUENCANA
The term "chola" refers to the mestizo woman in Indian dress. The Chola Cuencana is the representative woman of the biological and cultural miscegenation in the province of Azuay, in the south of the country. This miscegenation allowed her to consolidate in the urban areas of the city. La Chola Cuencana became an emblematic figure of the city of Cuenca in the mid-twentieth century.
